Welcome!
We are very excited to have you here at Turner Middle School. We are equally excited to welcome you to the “Language Arts Surf”. In the following handout, you will find information that we hope will be conducive to you as we team together to “Dive into Learning”.
Course Overview
Our goal is to enhance grammar/spelling usage and writing skills, as well as increasing the knowledge of various literary genres while reinforcing the Texas Essential Knowledge Skills (TEKS) and Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) objectives.
Curriculum
The Language Arts Department has blocked scheduling. This means that instead of a separate Language Arts class and a separate reading class, they are together. The Language Arts block is approximately an hour and a half.

five school day grace-period. If the student turns the assignment in one to two

event of an absence, the student has the number of days absent to complete their
assignments. It is the student’s responsibility to get their missed
assignments.
Due to department policy, No extra-credit will be assigned.
Textbooks/Book Checks
You will receive two (2) textbooks, one for Language Arts and one for Reading. Once issued, these books stay at home for you to do assignments. There will be a classroom set used during the school day.
Students will have to bring their books occasionally for book checks. Book checks are announced in advance so that the students can be prepared.
If for some reason the textbooks are lost or damaged, they are to be purchased. Since they are so expensive, we ask that you please try to keep up with them. If you withdraw from Turner you must return all books at the time of withdrawal.
Grading Policy
Course grades are as follows:
A: 100 – 90 % B: 89 – 80 % C: 79 – 70 % F: 69 % and below
Academic dishonesty will result in a grade of zero (0) for that class assignment.
